Floor Committees Gather in Preparation for the District Convention

President Hagan leads opening worship for the floor committees on February 10.

District Convention floor committees gathered Sat., Feb. 10 at the district office to review overtures and reports that were submitted. The committees will be presenting 22 resolutions at this summer’s convention. The resolutions, along with the overtures and reports, will be published in the convention workbook on the district website in March. 

Rev. Craig Otto is the chairman of Committee 1 – Witness and Mercy, which proposes resolutions related to Plus One and disaster response training. Rev. Bill Wilson chairs Committee 2 – Life Together, which will offer resolutions related to worker wellness and youth and family ministry. Rev. Kristopher Morris is chairing Committee 3 – Theology, Church and Culture, which has resolutions and religious liberty concerns and the need for resources for faithful teaching and ministry regarding sexual orientation and marriage. Finally, Rev. Dr. Kevin Golden is the chairman of Committee 4 – Structure and Administration, which is proposing changes to the district by-laws after an overture was submitted by the Board of Directors based upon recommendations of the District Structure Task Force. 

Nominees for District President and First Vice-President will be announced in the Voice in the coming weeks.  Convention information is available on the district website - http://mo.lcms.org/2018-convention/

The District Convention will be held June 10-12, 2018 at the Holiday Inn Executive Center in Columbia.  The theme for the convention is “Faithful Witnesses” based upon Isaiah 44:8. Dr. Adam Francisco will serve as the convention essayist. Delegate forms, registration and hotel links are all available on the district website. Congregations that have not submitted their lay delegate forms are asked to do so as soon as possible. Contact Michelle Christ with any convention questions (314-590-6200).  

Black History Celebration at Immanuel Lutheran Chapel's Early Learing Center
Outreach to the community was a focus as Immanuel Lutheran Chapel’s Early Learning Center held a special gathering for Black History Month on Sun., Feb. 11, 2018. 

The program was organized by teacher Ms. Joyce Hughes.  

The students of the Early Learning Center presented four special  themes (one for each classroom), followed by Dinner and a performance of African Dance, and then a “Fashion Show” featuring traditional African garb. 


Christ Community Lutheran School's First Ever "CCLS Staff Action Day"
Teachers and staffers all geared up for a day of service in their communities.

About 90 teachers and staffers from Christ Community Lutheran School (CCLS) in Crestwood, Glendale, Kirkwood, and Webster Groves skipped school on Tues., Feb. 13 for a day of service learning and volunteering in their communities. From 8:30 to 11:30 a.m., CCLS's principals, teachers and support staff fanned out across the St. Louis region to provide service to six agencies that serve the most vulnerable in our community - infants, children, refugees, the elderly, and adults with special needs. The organizations served were St. Louis Diaper Bank, Harvey Kornblum Jewish Food Pantry, Worth Industries, Lutheran Senior Services (LSS), Family Forward and Christian Friend of New Americans (CFNA).

CCLS is a nationally recognized Blue Ribbon School with elementary and middle school campuses in Kirkwood and Webster Groves, and early childhood centers in Crestwood, Glendale, Kirkwood, and Webster Groves. Founded in 1973, CCLS serves 640 students ranging from infant through eighth grade, making it one of the largest Lutheran schools in the Bi State Region. Visit http://www.ccls-stlouis.org.

Missouri District Spring Junior High Retreat

Psalm 103:12 NIV …as far as the east is from the west, so far has he removed our transgressions from us.

The Missouri District Lutheran Junior High Retreat is returning this spring on April 6-8, 2018 at Camp Windermere, located nine miles west of Camdenton, Missouri. The theme will be “Forgiven”, with a focus on Confession, and the Office of the Keys.

Our presenter & worship leader is Rev. Ken Chitwood, assistant pastor at First Lutheran Church in Gainesville, Florida.

All Parish Nurses and Health Ministers serving in LCMS Congregations as well as those who have served in the past are invited to participate in the second Missouri District Parish Nurse Convocation. The Convocation is designed to affirm and encourage Parish Nurses and Health Ministers.  The planning committee has utilized the   evaluations and discussion summary from the 2017 Missouri District Parish Nurse Convocation to plan the program. The schedule provides time for participant sharing and networking. President Lee Hagan will lead the opening Bible study and Rev. Gene Wyssmann will facilitate discussion. Participants are encouraged to bring brochures, display boards, information about programs that were both successful and unsuccessful. Please plan to attend and feel free to share this invitation with other LCMS Parish Nurses.

Lunch will be provided.

MISSION FAIR
Are you looking for a winter project? Now you have a project on which to work! Create handmade treasures for the LWML Mission Fair! LWMLers are invited to donate any handmade items - seasonal decorations, stitched items, doll clothes, ornaments, toys, jewelry, greeting cards, wood crafts, or any other ideas you may have. If God has blessed you with creative talents, please consider making and donating items for the FAIR. All women and men are encouraged to participate! Remember ALL proceeds go to the MITE program.

All items should be brought ALREADY PRICED to the Marbella room at the Lodge of Four Seasons on Friday, June 8, 2018, as earyl as possible. Then let the browsing and buying begin! The Mission Fair will be open Friday from 10 am until 6 pm, and Saturday before the convention convenes as well as during breaks and lunch. Response and Witness Effectively to Jehovah’s Witnesses
Kay Meyer will present “Respond and Witness Effectively to Jehovah’s Witnesses” on Friday, February 23, 2018 at Concordia Seminary in Clayton MO 63105 from 9:00 a.m. – 11:30 a.m. in Loeber II. Meyer is the president of Family Shield Ministries, host of Family Shield, and author of Mission Field on Our Doorstep: Jehovah’s Witnesses.
